A Dhaka court has begun recording testimony in three separate corruption cases against Sheikh Rehana, the sister of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina; her daughters– UK MP Tulip Siddiq and Azmira Siddiq; and her son, Radwan Mujib Siddiq (Bobby).

The cases relate to allegations of irregularities in the allocation of a 60-katha plot in the capital’s Purbachal New Town Project.

The hearings opened on Wednesday at Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-4, confirmed Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) public prosecutor Tariqul Islam.

Tulip Siddiq, a former UK City Minister, is facing the trial in Bangladesh.

The proceedings follow a similar move on August 11, when testimony began in three other graft cases against Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter Saima Wazed Putul over the same allegations.

On July 31, two special courts in Dhaka framed charges in six ACC cases involving 23 accused, including Sheikh Hasina, her family members, and 16 former and serving officials of the National Housing and Public Works Ministry and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK).

The ACC alleges the accused misused their positions and submitted false affidavits to claim they had no property in Dhaka, enabling them to obtain the Purbachal plot despite already owning land, houses, and vehicles.

According to the ACC, such actions constitute criminal breach of trust and other offences carrying a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The court set August 13 for testimony in the three cases involving Sheikh Rehana and her family members, while the remaining three cases involving Sheikh Hasina and others are being heard separately.

The ACC began its inquiry on December 26, 2024 and, on March 10, 2025, approved charge sheets in the six cases, accusing the defendants of colluding to secure the Purbachal plots through abuse of power and procedural violations.
