The government has suspended 18 senior police officials, including former chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.
A notification issued Monday by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the suspensions.
Signed by Deputy Secretary Nasimul Gani on behalf of the President, the order said the action was taken under Rule 12(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
The order said that the officers are accused of committing offenses tantamount to desertion, punishable under the rules. During their suspension, they will receive subsistence allowances, it added.
The list includes three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), six Additional DIGs, four Superintendents of Police (SPs), four Additional SPs, and one Assistant SP. Among those suspended are: Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, Additional Commissioner of Police, DMP; Sanjit Kumar Roy, Joint Commissioner, DMP; Rifat Rahman Shamim, former Joint Commissioner of DMP, now Additional DIG, Chattogram Range; Kazi Ashraful Azim, SP, Chattogram Range, and former DMP Deputy Commissioner; Hasan Arafat, Additional SP, Police Training Center, Khulna; Syed Nurul Islam, former DIG, Dhaka Range, now DIG, Bangladesh Police Academy, Rajshahi; Mohammad Zayedul Alam, Additional DIG, APBn and Specialised Training Center, Khagrachhari; Mohammad Farid Uddin, Additional DIG, APBn (Hill Districts); Shyamal Kumar Mukherjee, Additional DIG, Rajshahi Range; Ayesha Siddika, SP (promoted to Additional DIG, supernumerary), Rajshahi Range; Rajon Kumar Das, Additional SP, 8 APBn, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar; Mirza Salauddin, Additional SP, Police Staff College, Dhaka; Md. Habibullah Dalal, Assistant SP, Police Staff College, Dhaka; Rashedul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner, BMP; Md. Moniruzzaman, Additional DIG, Tourist Police, Dhaka; Md.
