Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz has instructed all patrol and operation teams to open fire immediately in self-defense if anyone brandishes a weapon in front of police during duty or raids.
The order came after Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Sayeed Rana was injured in an attack by miscreants at Eshan Mistri Ghat in Chattogram.
Following the incident, Commissioner Aziz Late Tuesday night fissued the verbal instruction via CMP wireless communication, directing all members to respond decisively to armed threats.

The attack on SI Rana occurred on Monday night in the Saltgola area under Bandar Police Station, when police received information about an Awami League flash procession. SI Rana and two other officers launched an operation, during which they attempted to search a house. Miscreants attacked them with sharp weapons, leaving Rana with serious head injuries.
A joint force operation later arrested 18 suspects from the area, recovering machetes, knives, and other sharp weapons.
Commissioner Aziz stated that CMP officers will now carry firearms under the same authority granted before August 5, 2024.
