The speed limit for vehicles on the Padma Bridge has been increased to 80 km/h, as per the directive of the Adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan. The decision was announced on Sunday (March 9) during an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Power Building in the capital. The meeting aimed to ensure safe and smooth travel for homebound people during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
Previously, the former government had set the speed limit on the Padma Bridge at 60 km/h to regulate vehicle movement. However, officials participating in the inter-ministerial meeting felt that a higher speed limit was necessary to enhance traffic flow.
Fauzul Kabir Khan stated that the new speed limit will help reduce congestion and ensure that vehicles do not remain stuck on the bridge. “By increasing the speed limit to 80 km/h, traffic will move more smoothly, preventing unnecessary delays,” he said. He also emphasized the need for proper road signage to guide drivers regarding the updated speed limit.
Additionally, the Adviser mentioned that emergency response measures will be in place to quickly transport accident victims to nearby hospitals during the Eid rush.
