Students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) staged a demonstration on the railway tracks near Jabbar’s Mor for hours on Sunday, blocking train movement on the Dhaka–Mymensingh to press home their three-point demand.

As part of the protest, students initially stopped the Dhaka-bound Haor Express.

However, they later allowed the train to leave at 12:45 p.m. on humanitarian grounds.

Meanwhile, the Netrokona-bound Mohua Commuter train has remained stranded. Several other trains, including the Balaka Express, was also stuck at different stations, causing severe disruption and suffering for passengers.

The students are demonstrating under the banner of Krishibid Oikya Parishad. They have declared that the blockade will continue until their demands are met.

The three-point demands are: No one can be promoted to the ninth grade post without first passing a recruitment examination; Tenth grade posts in agencies such as the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), BADC, and other research institutions, including positions like Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer or Sub-Assistant Scientific Officer, must remain open only for agricultural graduates; and Only graduates in agriculture or agriculture-related disciplines should be allowed to use the title “Krishibid (Agriculturist),” and a government gazette notification must be issued to enforce this.
