Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam on Monday stirred political discussions after posting on Facebook: “The footsteps of 1/11 are being heard!”– a statement widely interpreted as an allusion to the 2007 political crisis and the subsequent state of emergency.

Shortly afterward,, Alam updated the post, adding: “However, July will win. The people’s struggle will not be defeated.”

Barely 12 minutes later, he made another detailed post about the July Uprising, framing it as a broad-based movement where contributions from all political, student, professional, and grassroots groups should be recognised.

He credited organisations ranging from student groups, leftist platforms, and madrasa students to women, labourers, cultural activists, and even a section of the ruling party’s student wing for their roles in the mass protests.

Despite his clarification, Alam’s initial reference to “1/11” has sparked widespread debate in political circles.
