Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged everyone to unite in building a Bangladesh “where tyranny will never rise again,” reaffirming that the July Uprising rekindled the nation’s hope for justice, equality, and a corruption-free society.

He made the call in a message issued Monday marking July Uprising Day on August 5.

In his message, Prof Yunus said, “July rekindled our hope, a hope for a just, equal and corruption-free Bangladesh.”

He stressed that the sacrifice of thousands had created this rare chance for national reform and must be safeguarded at any cost.

Warning that the “fallen autocrats and their self-serving allies remain active, conspiring to derail the nation’s progress,” he added: Let us stand united beyond all divisions to confront and defeat these threats. Together, we will build a Bangladesh where tyranny will never rise again.

Prof Yunus described August 5 as a historic day. “Today marks an unforgettable chapter in the history of Bangladesh. It was on this very day, one year ago, that the July Uprising reached its triumph, liberating our beloved nation from the grip of long-standing fascist rule.”

He extended heartfelt congratulations to the people whose united struggle achieved this milestone and paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“My profound respect goes to every martyr of the uprising. I remember with deep gratitude all the July warriors who were injured, permanently disabled and even lost their eyesight. The nation shall forever honour their sacrifice,” he said.

He called the July Uprising “a collective eruption against sixteen years of oppressive authoritarian misrule,” aimed at establishing a system free from discrimination, corruption and tyranny, and at restoring democracy to the people.

The Chief Adviser said the interim government had since undertaken major reforms to meet these aspirations, including speedy trials of the July killings, measures to preserve the memory of martyrs, and rehabilitation of injured fighters.

He added that dialogue is ongoing with political parties and stakeholders on reforms to the political and electoral systems to accelerate democratic progress.

Prof Yunus reaffirmed the Interim Government’s commitment to returning state power to the people through “a peaceful, fair and transparent election” as part of a lasting political solution.
