Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during her recent official visit to Thailand, discussed various bilateral issues, including increasing cooperation in technology and expertise with Thailand to strengthen food security. She said, “By leveraging Thailand’s experience and technological skills, we can enhance our food security. We have discussed increasing our cooperation with Thailand in education and health sectors as well. I have also invited Thailand to invest in Bangladesh’s healthcare sector.”
The Prime Minister further shared details about her private meeting with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin at Government House. “In addition to other bilateral issues, I earnestly sought Thailand’s support for the swift repatriation of the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens (Rohingya community) back to their homeland,” she said.
She added, “The discussions also covered the expansion of trade and import-export growth between our two nations, alongside the review of the Free Trade Agreement and other mutual interests. Notable topics included investment, communication among people, cultural exchange, tourism cooperation, energy security, agriculture and food security, health, land and sea connectivity, development cooperation, and regional and international cooperation. During this time, I requested the Thai Prime Minister to especially encourage the private sector’s involvement in our special economic zones and high-tech parks to maintain the trade balance between our two countries.”
After a six-day state visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home from Bangkok last Monday (April 29).
She arrived in Thailand on April 24 at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
On April 26, Sheikh Hasina had a bilateral discussion with Prime Minister Thavisin at the Government House. In the presence of both leaders, five bilateral documents were signed concerning visa exemption, energy, tourism, customs issues, and the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
During a formal luncheon hosted by Thai Prime Minister Thavisin, Sheikh Hasina termed her visit a milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Additionally, on April 25, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had a courtesy meeting with King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana at the Dusit Palace’s Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall.
On the same day, Sheikh Hasina addressed the 80th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, focusing on the Asia-Pacific region.
