An international conference on the Rohingya crisis, initiated by the United Nations, will be held on September 30, according to Dr. Khaliqul Rahman, National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Chief Adviser’s High Representative on the Rohingya issue.
Speaking to journalists at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Sunday, Dr. Rahman emphasised that the event will serve as a permanent opportunity to provide the global community with a roadmap for a lasting solution to the crisis.
He noted that the main objective of the conference is to bring the voices of the Rohingyas– their hopes, aspirations, and dreams– before the international community.

As part of the preparation, a dialogue titled “Stakeholder Dialogue: Messages for the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation” will be held in Cox’s Bazar on August 25, which will gather insights and recommendations to be presented at the main conference.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Rahman briefed foreign diplomats and international development partners in Dhaka, stressing Bangladesh’s expectations from the UN-led event.
He recalled that the Rohingya issue had nearly disappeared from the global agenda, but the Chief Adviser’s call during last year’s UN General Assembly revived international attention. Following the appeal, all member states responded positively, and the General Assembly unanimously decided to convene the September 30 conference.
So far, 106 countries have sponsored the conference, reflecting broad global consensus and commitment.
Dr. Rahman expressed optimism that the event would help sustain international support and push forward efforts for a durable solution to one of the world’s most protracted refugee crises.
