Mobile internet services have resumed after being suspended for 11 days. The nationwide internet shutdown occurred around 9 PM on July 17 due to violence surrounding the quota reform movement. Broadband internet was shut down on the night of July 18.
On Sunday, July 28, at a meeting with mobile operators at the BTRC building, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, announced that internet services would resume from 3 PM. Representatives from mobile operators, and MFS companies like bKash, Nagad, Rocket, Upay, BTRC, and intelligence agencies were present at the meeting.
Considering the inconvenience to users due to the shutdown, all mobile internet users will receive 5 GB of data, valid for 3 days. All operators’ customers will benefit from this offer.
According to various customer reports, 4G internet services are currently available. 5G services will be launched later. However, mobile internet is operating somewhat slower than expected. In many cases, users have to restart their mobile devices for the internet to work.
