The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has reported that a mild cold wave is currently affecting Panchagarh and Sirajganj, with predictions that this cold spell might persist for a few days. Alongside, the department forecasts dry weather across the country over the next 72 hours, with possibilities of moderate to dense fog forming in various regions.
The synoptic weather analysis reveals that a subcontinental high-pressure ridge is extending over Bihar and adjacent areas, while a seasonal low-pressure system is situated over the South Bay of Bengal. This system stretches up to the North Bay of Bengal, influencing the overall weather conditions in Bangladesh.
The forecast for Saturday, January 25, indicates mostly dry conditions across the country with partly cloudy skies. However, moderate to dense fog is likely to form late at night and linger until noon, particularly in low-lying and riverine areas. This fog could impact air travel, river transport, and road communications, causing potential delays and disruptions.
Moving into Sunday, January 26, the weather is expected to remain dry and stable, with light to moderate fog forming late at night and early morning. Temperatures are projected to drop slightly, with night temperatures decreasing by 1-3°C, while day temperatures are expected to remain steady.
By Monday, January 27, the dry conditions will continue, accompanied by light to moderate fog during late nights and early mornings. A slight dip in both day and night temperatures is expected during this period, intensifying the chilly conditions, particularly in areas already experiencing the cold wave.
The extended weather outlook for the next five days suggests a gradual rise in temperatures, which might provide some relief from the current cold wave. However, fog is expected to remain a factor, especially during early mornings.
The ongoing mild cold wave in Panchagarh and Sirajganj, coupled with dense fog across the country, poses challenges for transportation and daily life. Dense fog is particularly disruptive to aviation, road, and river transport, leading to potential delays and risks. Additionally, the cold conditions may increase the prevalence of cold-related illnesses, particularly among vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.
Health authorities recommend wearing warm clothing, maintaining body warmth with hot beverages, and taking extra precautions during travel in foggy conditions. Travelers are advised to exercise caution, especially in the early mornings, when visibility is expected to be at its lowest.
As temperatures continue to drop in some areas, it is important for citizens to remain vigilant and stay updated with weather advisories to ensure safety and minimize disruptions during this cold spell.
