BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo has said that party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest in the upcoming national parliamentary election.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday at an event held at the Grand Sultan Convention Hall in Feni, he said: Our leader is now in good health. There is no concern regarding the upcoming election in Feni. Everyone knows Feni’s electoral history. If the election is free and fair, BNP will surely win here. If the polls are held by December, we hope our party chief will contest from Feni and secure victory.”
Criticising past elections, Mintoo said, “The 2008 election was neither free, fair, nor neutral. Since 2006, the country has not had an elected government. If a country remains without an elected government for two decades, neither the economy nor the standard of living of its people can improve.”
“Elected governments are accountable to the people– they come to power through struggle, enduring oppression and persecution. But if a government is not accountable to its people, it will never work for their welfare. That is why we demand an immediate election,” he said.
