Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and all passengers aboard his helicopter have been killed. After nearly 15 hours of search operations in extreme weather conditions, the rescue team located Raisi’s helicopter.

The state news agency of Iran confirmed this information via BBC.

On Sunday, President Raisi was traveling to inaugurate a dam in the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan’s Tabriz. Along with President Raisi, the helicopter carried Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, and the Supreme Leader’s representative for the province, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem. The helicopter crashed on the way back to Tabriz.
