Hamas has accepted a ceasefire proposal with Israel, mediated by Qatar and Egypt. This development aims to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza, contingent on the release of Israeli citizens currently held captive by Hamas. However, Israel has yet to clarify its position on the matter.

According to a report from the BBC on Tuesday, May 7, a Hamas leader commented, “The ball is now in Israel’s court,” indicating that the decision to proceed with the ceasefire now rests with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that the proposal accepted by Hamas falls short of Israel’s fundamental demands, but discussions will continue.

Previously, following a warning to evacuate the city of Rafah, Israel conducted airstrikes there. This southern city has been under the threat of prolonged attacks from Israel.

The attacks have reportedly affected thousands of people. Additionally, many were observed boarding vehicles and donkey carts on Monday.

The ceasefire agreement includes a one-week pause in hostilities and the release of several dozen hostages held by Hamas.

On Monday evening, Hamas issued a statement informing that their political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, had notified the Prime Minister of Qatar and the Chief of Intelligence of Egypt about the approval of the ceasefire proposal.
