Bangladesh national cricket team pacer Taskin Ahmed has been accused of assaulting and threatening his childhood friend.
According to a general diary (GD) filed at Mirpur Model Police Station early Monday, complainant Sifatur Rahman Saurav alleged that Taskin phoned him on Sunday night, called him to Mirpur-1, physically assaulted him with punches and kicks, and issued threats.
Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Sajjad confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“The complainant is Taskin’s childhood friend. They had an argument last night which escalated. The complainant later came to the police station and filed a GD. However, Taskin is currently unreachable as his phone is switched off,” the OC stated.
This incident adds to a series of off-field controversies involving Bangladeshi cricketers in recent years.
Former national pacer Shahadat Hossain was arrested in 2015 for allegedly torturing an 11-year-old domestic worker and was later banned in 2019 for assaulting a teammate during a domestic match.
Batsman Sabbir Rahman faced a six-month suspension and loss of his central contract in 2017 after assaulting a young fan during a domestic game.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has yet to issue a statement regarding the allegation against Taskin Ahmed, while police said they are continuing their investigation.
