After being released from Somali pirates, 23 sailors of the vessel MV Abdullah have safely arrived at Chittagong Port aboard the lighter ship MV Jahan Moni-3. This marks the end of a long ordeal for the crew, who were captured while transporting coal from Mozambique to Dubai. The ship was hijacked by Somali pirates, holding the crew hostage.
On Tuesday (14 May), afternoon, MV Jahan Moni-3 entered the Chittagong Port. Earlier at around 12 PM, the lighter vessel set sail from Kutubdia coast with the sailors and reached the New Mooring Container Terminal-1 (NCT) at Chittagong Port in the afternoon. Following their arrival, the Chittagong Port Authority organized a brief ceremony to welcome the sailors back.
This incident first gained significant media attention in March when the MV Abdullah was reported hijacked. After negotiations by the ship owners, the pirates released the vessel on 13 April. Since then, the sailors awaited their return home, finally setting off for Bangladesh from Dubai on 30 April.
