Bangladesh Bank has set a limit on cash withdrawals from banks for today, Thursday, August 8, to ensure security. No more than 1 lakh taka can be withdrawn from a single account today. This decision applies only for today.
On Wednesday, August 7, Bangladesh Bank issued this directive in an emergency message to the managing directors (MDs) of banks.
According to the directive, while a customer cannot withdraw cash, they can transfer any amount of money and conduct digital transactions.
The interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus is set to take the oath today. Bank sources said that this decision was made for security reasons to prevent the cash from being used in any terrorist or illegal activities.
Additionally, the central bank has instructed to stop the transfer of money from the head office to the branches today. Customers are also advised to make payments via checks.
