After discussions with the President, the Chief Justice has suspended the sessions (judicial activities) of both divisions of the Supreme Court until further notice.
In separate notifications signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan on August 4, it was stated: “By direction, it is informed that all judicial activities of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court, along with all subordinate courts and tribunals in the country, will remain suspended until further notice. However, the Chief Justice will take necessary action in urgent matters.”
Later, on the night of August 5, the Supreme Court’s Public Relations Officer announced in a message that judicial and administrative activities of the subordinate (lower) courts would continue normally from Tuesday. Judicial and administrative activities of the Supreme Court’s Appellate and High Court Divisions would resume from Wednesday. However, in another message on August 6, it was announced that judicial activities of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court would be closed on August 7 and 8, but the office would remain open on a limited scale.
At one point, it was announced on the afternoon of August 7 that judicial activities of the High Court Division would continue in a limited manner, either directly or virtually (as convenient), from August 8 until further notice. However, the judicial activities of the Appellate Division will remain closed. Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam of the Appellate Division will conduct the judicial activities of the Chamber Judge Court directly or virtually (as convenient) from August 8.
However, in a notification signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan on the night of August 7, it was stated that “after discussions with the President, the Chief Justice has suspended the sessions (judicial activities) of both divisions of the Supreme Court until further notice.”
