Amid the current curfew situation due to the quota reform movement, transportation is gradually returning to normal. Starting from Thursday, 1 August, short-distance trains will resume operations.
The Bangladesh Railway Authority has announced that due to the current situation, only local and commuter trains will be running. Trains will operate within districts, including Dhaka, but intercity train services will remain suspended. The Railway Ministry has not yet decided on resuming intercity train services.
Sardar Shahadat Ali, Director General of Bangladesh Railway, stated, “During the relaxed curfew, mail, local, and commuter trains will run from today. Based on the situation, there are plans to gradually resume intercity train services.”
However, the closure of the metro rail has caused significant inconvenience to its passengers, especially office-goers. Authorities have indicated that due to severe damage to two stations in Mirpur, it will not be possible to reopen the metro rail for at least a year.
