Sheikh Hasina resigns and flees country with sister Sheikh Rehana

Sheikh Hasina resigned at around noon; she submitted her resignation to president Mohammad Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban. Then, along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, she left the country.

On Monday, August 5th, they left Bangladesh and thus fell the government of Awami League.

Reports indicate that she has gone to West Bengal, a close source to Sheikh Hasina informed AFP that she wanted to record a speech before leaving, but she was not allowed to do so. Meanwhile, general students and people have entered Ganabhaban, PMO, National Parliament and other significant state institutions.

ISPR (Inter Services Public Relation Directorate) has announced that the Army Chief, Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman will address the nation at 4:30 pm regarding the ongoing situation.
