The High Court has issued a rule questioning the validity of the decision to cancel the press accreditation card of Channel I special correspondent Rezvi Newaz.
A division bench of the High Court headed by Justice Shashank Shekhar Sarkar and Justice A.K.M. Rabiul Hasan issued the rule on Wednesday (December 18).
Earlier, journalist Rezvi Newaz had filed a petition in the High Court against the cancellation of the press accreditation card. In view of this, the High Court directed the government and the concerned parties to show cause why the cancellation of a person’s permanent press accreditation card (ID number: 1299) is illegal and will not be declared legally invalid.
The plaintiff’s lawyer applied for a stay of the operation of the order. However, the court did not issue an interim order in this regard and only issued a rule.
Barrister A.B.M. Hamidul Misbah, Barrister Nazia Kabir and Barrister Muatadi Hossain were present in the court on behalf of the plaintiff.
It is worth noting that the Information Department of the Ministry of Information cancelled the plaintiff’s permanent press accreditation card through an order on November 7. When a dispute arose over this, the plaintiff approached the court.
