Abdul Qader, convener of Dhaka University unit of Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad and former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, alleged that several Islami Chhatra Shibir activists participated in abusive practices under the guise of being Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members.
In a Facebook post on Sunday night, Qader claimed that Shibir activists residing in dormitories often engaged in extreme acts to prove their loyalty to BCL and overcome an “identity crisis.”
He accused former Shibir-linked individuals of leading or participating in student abuse during the Awami League government’s tenure, naming multiple dormitory-level leaders.
According to him, these individuals adopted BCL’s violent culture and were involved in notorious incidents, including the torture of students in guest rooms.

Qader cited examples such as Majedur Rahman of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Musaddik Billah (former BCL DU branch office secretary), Afzalun Naeem of Jasimuddin Hall, and Ilias Hossain of Mujib Hall, allegedly once tied to Shibir but later active in BCL-led assaults.
He also pointed to figures like Hasanul Banna (Zahurul Haque Hall)) and Rayhan Uddin (Sir AF Rahman Hall), who, he said, later reemerged as Shibir leaders after August 5.
He further alleged that Abu Sadiq Kayem, former president of Shibir’s DU branch and now its central publication secretary, lobbied to exclude Shibir-linked individuals from legal cases against those accused of student abuse following the July 15 violence.
Qader asserted that Shibir influenced post-August 5 hall politics by manipulating elections for batch representatives and hall discipline committees, turning them into “shadow administrations” to protect their own.
He criticised how alleged Shibir-linked individuals evaded accountability and reemerged openly within Shibir after the political shift.
When contacted, Abu Sadiq Kayem denied the allegations, stating: “I never discussed these matters with Qader. His Facebook claims are false. I only messaged to ensure that no innocent students were harassed.”
