Dhaka University Writers’ Hub (DU Writers’ Hub), a student-focused platform promoting creativity, writing skills and literary expression, has held an orientation programme for its newly recruited members at the Abdullah Farouk Multipurpose Hall. The event marked the formal beginning of the journey of the new “Vanguards” following the recruitment drive held in November and December.
Founded in 2017–18, DU Writers’ Hub has since developed into a dynamic creative community at the University of Dhaka. Alongside writing, the platform regularly organises workshops and webinars on graphic design, event management and human resource management, aiming to equip students with practical skills to support their academic pursuits and future careers.
The orientation programme was attended by several alumni and mentors, including Mohammad Mohi Uddin Bhuiyan, founder of DU Writers’ Hub and Director of Enterprise 360 Limited; Shahedul Hasan, founding general secretary and Deputy Manager (Research) at the SME Foundation; Zahirul Islam Sajib, former president and Director of Business Development at Enterprise 360; Raihan Sobhan, moderator of DU Writers’ Hub and Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting at the University of Dhaka; and Fahin Rahman Aungkita, faculty adviser and former president of DU Writers’ Hub, and a lecturer in the Department of Criminology at the university.
Speakers reflected on their early involvement with the Hub and discussed how the platform had contributed to their skills, confidence and professional development. Mohammad Mohi Uddin Bhuiyan said the Hub was established in response to the need for stronger reading and writing habits among business faculty students, noting the importance of writing in both academic and professional life. Zahirul Islam Sajib said academic priorities always came first, but added that the Hub’s extracurricular activities helped members build networks and connections that were equally important for personal and professional growth.
Raihan Sobhan highlighted the continued importance of effective writing, despite the growing use of artificial intelligence. He said that while technology could assist with grammar and tone, clear writing remained a human skill essential for examinations, research and professional communication.
Fahin Rahman Aungkita spoke about how her involvement with the Hub had helped her develop leadership, creativity and confidence, and expressed her enthusiasm about serving as faculty adviser. Current members thanked her for her guidance and said they looked forward to learning from her as the Hub enters its next phase.
One of the main features of the programme was the Orientation and Sorting Hat Ceremony, which familiarised the new Vanguards with the Hub’s internal structure and creative pathways. The 2024–25 committee was also recognised for its leadership and contribution over the past year.
Over the years, DU Writers’ Hub has organised a range of initiatives aimed at encouraging student creativity. Among them is Unleash Your True Potential (UYTP) 6.0, held at the TSC Auditorium in 2025, which attracted wide participation and featured industry professionals offering guidance on careers and professional development. Another regular event, Moroker Arale, held annually during the book fair season, continues to encourage reflective literary engagement during the culturally significant period.
Through the orientation programme and its wider activities, DU Writers’ Hub reiterated its commitment to fostering a supportive environment where creativity is encouraged, voices are developed and ideas are transformed into meaningful expression.
