Nasiruddin Patwary, the chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has dismissed as “rumours” the reports circulating in several media outlets and on social media claiming that a group of NCP leaders traveled to Cox’s Bazar to meet with former US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas.
“We didn’t come here to meet anyone. It was a sudden trip; we were tired after the march. We just came to the beach for a casual visit. But right after checking into the hotel, we saw this news spreading everywhere,” Patwary said.
He described the reports as “totally false, misinformation, and media propaganda.”
Patwary added: We even heard here that we supposedly came to meet Peter Haas. If that were true, we could have met him in Dhaka itself, if we had any such intention.”
The trip by several NCP leaders, including Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, Tasnim Zara, and Nasiruddin Patwary, sparked controversy on Tuesday afternoon, especially as it coincided with official state programmes commemorating the anniversary of the July Uprising.
When asked whether NCP leaders would join the state events, Patwary said, “Our convener and member secretary have received invitation cards. As far as I know, a representative team from our party will attend. Like other parties, we were also told to send a small delegation.”
