The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced the roadmap for the 13th National Parliament election, confirming that the polls will be held before the holy month of Ramadan.
EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, unveiling the roadmap, told reporters that the Chief Adviser’s Office had instructed the commission to arrange voting ahead of Ramadan.
“The election schedule will be declared 60 days before the polling date,” he added.
Ahmed said the commission has adopted 24 action plans for the election. Constituency boundaries are expected to be finalised by September 15, while the voter list will be printed by December 5.
Reacting to the announcement, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed welcomed the roadmap, saying it met the nation’s expectations. He noted that both the government and the Chief Adviser’s Office had given similar guidance.
“We view this roadmap positively. It has been announced at the right time. Now we expect the election to be held according to the roadmap,” Salahuddin said.
