The interim government has formed an eight-member committee to evaluate the demands of both BSc degree-holding engineers and diploma engineers, amid ongoing movements by the two groups.

BSc engineers from BUET and other universities have been protesting with a three-point demand, which includes barring diploma engineers from using the title “Engineer” before their names.

On the other hand, diploma engineers have launched a movement with a seven-point demand, including opposition to allowing BSc engineers to be appointed in the post of Sub-Assistant Engineer.

Amid these tensions, the government issued a notification on Wednesday announcing the formation of the committee.

The committee will be headed by Power and Energy Adviser Fauzul Kabir Khan. Other members include Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Education Adviser C.R. Abrar, and Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.

The committee will also include representatives from the Engineers Institution, the Institution of Diploma Engineers, the Ministry of Public Administration, and the Technical Education Board.

According to the government circular, the committee will examine the legitimacy of the demands raised by both BSc and diploma engineers and submit its recommendations within one month.

The committee also has the authority to include additional members if necessary.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday afternoon, clashes broke out between protesting BUET students and police, leading to baton charges and tense confrontations.
