The Director General-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) began in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
The 56th edition of the conference is being held at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana, according to a press release issued by BGB.
The discussions will focus on preventing border killings, illegal entry and push-ins, as well as stopping the smuggling of drugs, arms, ammunition, and other contraband from India.
Both sides will also address issues related to development activities within 150 yards of the international border, preventing unauthorised infrastructure, protecting riverbanks along border rivers, and ensuring Bangladesh’s fair share of transboundary river waters.
BGB further stated that the agenda includes initiatives for implementing coordinated border management, measures to ease tensions caused by recent anti-Bangladesh propaganda in the Indian media, and other bilateral matters of mutual interest concerning border security.
The Bangladesh delegation, led by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, consists of 21 members.
On the other side, an 11-member Indian delegation, headed by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary is participating.
The conference will conclude on August 28.
