In a display of academic excellence and international leadership, Bangladeshi doctoral researchers have secured two of the top three prizes at the Louisiana Tech University Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.
The prestigious event, hosted by the College of Engineering and Science (COES), featured a highly selective group of 25 finalists representing 15 different nations. Amidst this diverse international field, Bangladeshis formed the largest single cohort of participants, underscoring the community’s growing dominance in high-level research at the university.
Top Honors for Micro and Nanoscale Systems Researchers Two Bangladeshi doctoral candidates, Ahsanul Alam Kabhi and Niloy Paul, distinguished themselves among the global finalists. Both scholars are pursuing a PhD in Engineering with a concentration in Micro and Nanoscale Systems.

Niloy Paul secured the People’s Choice Award.
A Legacy of Leading the Pack The success of Kabhi and Paul is consistent with a strong tradition of Bangladeshi achievement at Louisiana Tech. In previous years, Bangladeshi students have frequently secured maximum awards at university research symposiums and 3MT competitions.
This sustained success reflects the strength of the Bangladeshi academic community in Ruston. Currently, there are 44 Bangladeshi graduate students enrolled at the university. The majority are engaged in advanced research, with 38 pursuing PhDs and others completing Master’s degrees.
About the Competition The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a globally recognized competition that challenges graduate students to explain their complex research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. This year’s event at Louisiana Tech highlighted the diverse talent within the College of Engineering and Science, with Bangladeshis leading the way in both participation numbers and podium finishes.
“Seeing two of our own secure prizes among the top three is a testament to the hard work and research quality of Bangladeshi students here,” said a representative of the Bangladeshi student community.
