The anti-discrimination student movement is staging a non-cooperation movement demanding the government’s resignation. Reports of attacks and clashes have been received from the capital and beyond.
On Sunday (4 August) morning, protesters began gathering in Shahbagh. At one point, they attacked Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), causing vandalism inside and outside the premises. Reports indicate that Chhatra League and Jubo League members were present inside BSMMU, where a fire was seen. It is unclear who started the fire.
Coordinator Asif Mahmud of the anti-discrimination student movement announced on Facebook late Saturday night that protests and public gatherings would be held at key points across the country from 11 am on Sunday.
On Friday night, the movement’s leaders called for protests on Saturday and a full-fledged non-cooperation movement from Sunday onwards.
