Traffic police have resumed duties on several roads in Dhaka after at least six days. Gradually, traffic police will return to all roads in the capital.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Moynul Islam confirmed this while responding to journalists’ questions at the Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital on Sunday (August 11) afternoon.
“Our traffic police are not short of personnel. Traffic officers have already resumed work from Intercontinental Signal to Jahangir Gate. There are many traffic police working in these areas, and gradually they will resume duties on all roads,” the IGP stated.
He also mentioned that students, BNCC, and Scout members are also present on these roads, and there is communication with student coordinators to prevent any misunderstandings between students and traffic police.
Earlier, interim government Home Affairs Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain announced that all students working on the roads would receive certificates from the police, which would be recognized during job placements.
He said, “I will request the IGP to list the students working on traffic duties and provide them with certificates from the police. These certificates should be valued during job placements.”
Sakhawat Hossain also praised the students for their voluntary efforts, stating that they were cleaning roads, painting walls, and maintaining public order on their own initiative, which would have cost billions if it were a government project.
