যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের লুইজিয়ানা টেক ইউনিভার্সিটিতে অনুষ্ঠিত মর্যাদাপূর্ণ ‘থ্রি মিনিট থিসিস’ (3MT) প্রতিযোগিতায় আবারও নিজেদের মেধার স্বাক্ষর রাখলেন বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীরা। প্রতিযোগিতায় শীর্ষ তিনটি পুরস্কারের মধ্যে দুটিই জিতে নিয়েছেন দুই বাংলাদেশি পিএইচডি গবেষক—আহসান কবির এবং নিলয় পাল। আহসান কবির অর্জন করেছেন ‘রানার্স-আপ’ খেতাব এবং নিলয় পাল জিতে নিয়েছেন ‘পিপলস চয়েস অ্যাওয়ার্ড’। তারা দুজনেই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কলেজ অফ ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং অ্যান্ড সায়েন্স-এর অধীনে ‘মাইক্রো অ্যান্ড ন্যানোস্কেল সিস্টেমস’ (Micro and Nanoscale Systems) কনসেন্ট্রেশনে পিএইচডি করছেন। আন্তর্জাতিক মঞ্চে বাংলাদেশিদের আধিপত্য এবারের প্রতিযোগিতায় তীব্র প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা লক্ষ্য করা গেছে। ১৫টি ভিন্ন দেশের মোট ২৫ জন নির্বাচিত প্রতিযোগী চূড়ান্ত পর্বে অংশ নেন। এই বৈচিত্র্যময় আন্তর্জাতিক পরিমণ্ডলে অংশগ্রহণকারীদের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশিদের সংখ্যাই ছিল সর্বোচ্চ, যা বিদেশের মাটিতে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের দাপুটে উপস্থিতির প্রমাণ দেয়। মাত্র তিন মিনিটে নিজের জটিল গবেষণার বিষয়বস্তু সহজ ভাষায় সবার সামনে তুলে ধরার এই কঠিন চ্যালেঞ্জে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের যোগ্যতা প্রমাণ করেছেন। সাফল্যের ধারাবাহিকতা ও ক্রমবর্ধমান কমিউনিটি লুইজিয়ানা টেক ইউনিভার্সিটিতে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের সাফল্যের ধারা নতুন নয়। বিগত বছরগুলোতেও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিভিন্ন রিসার্চ সিম্পোজিয়াম এবং ৩এমটি প্রতিযোগিতায় বাংলাদেশিরা সর্বোচ্চ সংখ্যক পুরস্কার অর্জনের রেকর্ড গড়েছেন। আহসান ও নিলয়ের এই অর্জন সেই ধারাবাহিকতারই অংশ। বর্তমানে লুইজিয়ানা টেক ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ৪৪ জন বাংলাদেশি গ্র্যাজুয়েট শিক্ষার্থী অধ্যয়নরত আছেন। এর মধ্যে ৩৮ জনই পিএইচডি প্রোগ্রামে বিভিন্ন ডিসিপ্লিনে গবেষণারত এবং বাকিরা মাস্টার্স প্রোগ্রামে যুক্ত আছেন। প্রকৌশল ও বিজ্ঞানের মতো জটিল ও উচ্চতর গবেষণার ক্ষেত্রগুলোতে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের এই ক্রমবর্ধমান অংশগ্রহণ ও সাফল্য নিঃসন্দেহে দেশের জন্য গর্বের বিষয়।
