Winter has tightened its grip across Bangladesh, with both urban and rural areas experiencing biting cold. A mild to moderate cold wave is currently sweeping through 10 districts, intensifying the already frigid conditions.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the cold wave is affecting Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jessore, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Moulvibazar, and Gopalganj. The department also mentioned that this cold wave may persist in some regions, while a slight increase in both daytime and nighttime temperatures is expected nationwide.

In its forecast for Saturday (January 11), BMD stated that the extended portion of the subcontinental high-pressure zone lies over West Bengal and adjacent areas of Bangladesh, while the seasonal low-pressure system is stationed over the southern Bay of Bengal, with its influence extending up to the northern Bay.

The weather is expected to remain mostly dry with partly cloudy skies across the country. Light to moderate fog is likely to occur in some areas during the late night and early morning hours. Sunday’s forecast predicts similar weather patterns, with moderate to dense fog over western and northwestern regions, and light to moderate fog elsewhere.

Looking ahead to Monday (January 13), the weather is expected to stay dry, with partly cloudy skies. Moderate to dense fog is likely to persist during the late night and morning in various parts of the country. While nighttime temperatures may slightly increase, daytime temperatures could slightly decrease. The extended five-day forecast indicates that temperatures may drop marginally during this period.

Residents in affected districts are advised to take necessary precautions, especially during nighttime and early morning when the cold is most intense. The ongoing cold wave has particularly impacted vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly, in rural areas.
