Dr. Reza Kibria, son of former Awami League finance minister Shah AMS Kibria, killed in a grenade attack on January 27, 2005, has accused the current government of betraying the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs.

Speaking at a discussion titled “Expectations of the July 36 uprising and the upcoming election” held at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Saturday, Reza Kibria said many within the government committed acts so grave that they will eventually be forced to flee the country.

The event was organised by the Bangladesh Janata Party.

Criticising the current leadership, he argued that under Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and “NGO-style governance,” the people’s aspirations would never be fulfilled.

He also said Asif Nazrul is “half-educated” and should not be given charge of reforms.

Kibria stressed that the government has lost neutrality, calling it “incompetent,” and urged that Sheikh Hasina must be brought back to the country.

“We probably expected too much from Dr. Yunus,” he added. “But what we see now is an NGO government, not one capable of real national progress.”
