BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that his party does not support any proportional election system. He emphasized that the sooner the election is held, the sooner the country’s situation will stabilize.
He made these remarks on Thursday, February 13, during a press briefing following a meeting with the acting British High Commissioner to Dhaka, James Goldman, at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Expressing satisfaction with the recent United Nations report, Mirza Fakhrul stated that the “Mirror House” report has proven that the Awami League deliberately violated human rights to stay in power. He further stressed that BNP demands a national election before any local government elections.
“The people will decide who will engage in politics in this country and who will not,” he added, underscoring the importance of a free and fair election process.
The meeting between BNP leaders and the acting British High Commissioner, James Goldman, was also attended by BNP’s Organizing Secretary and Chairperson’s Special Foreign Affairs Adviser, Shama Obaid. The discussion focused on the current political situation, human rights issues, and the urgency of a national election.
