During a year filled with film shootings, celebrated actress Purnima often felt nervous about the feedback her movies would receive from the censor board before their release. In a surprising turn of events, Purnima herself has become a member of the film censor board.
The Ministry of Information’s Deputy Secretary, Saiful Islam, signed a notification on Sunday, May 12, announcing this appointment. Purnima was pleasantly surprised by the news, considering it a major achievement in her career.
Speaking to Channel i Online, Purnima expressed, “Today, when I received the letter of appointment as a censor member, I was somewhat astonished. It’s a significant achievement and a matter of pride in my long career. Earlier, when my films were submitted for censorship, I was always nervous, eager to know if my film would pass uncut. Now, being a member of the censor board, I can enjoy a variety of films. I feel honored.”
Purnima has had a colorful career on the silver screen, contributing to commercially successful and critically acclaimed films like ‘Moner Majhe Tumi’, ‘Akash Chhoa Bhalobasa’, and many others. Although she has acted in fewer films in recent years, her presence as a presenter has been quite active, adding a new dimension to her identity beyond being an actress.
Expressing her gratitude for being a part of the censor board, Purnima stated, “I never imagined I could be a member of the censor board. I don’t believe I have acquired the proper qualifications to be there, yet I have been included and honored. I will strive to fulfill my duties diligently. I am grateful to the Ministry of Information and everyone involved for placing me in such a prestigious committee.”
Besides Purnima, the new one-year term of the 15-member censor board includes actresses such as Sujata Azim, Aruna Biswas, Rokeya Prachy, and actors like Azizul Hakim. Producers and directors like Khorshed Alam Khasru and Jahangir Alam are also part of this board. The new board will be chaired by the Information Secretary, with Khaleda Begum serving as the vice-chairman.
