Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made headlines in Chinese newspapers after she completed all her scheduled bilateral programmes, including holding bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang and other engagements.
During her stay in Beijing from 8 to 10 July, Her Excellency issued investment invitations to Chinese companies at the ‘The Rise of Bengal Tiger: Summit on Trade Business and Investment Opportunities between Bangladesh and China.’ The grand summit, attended by hundreds of Chinese and Bangladeshi delegates, businessmen and media, featured a pivotal presentation by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on trade, business, and investment opportunities.
The event at the China World Summit Wing, Beijing, also incorporated a myriad of speeches from the likes of Ambassadors and Ministers from both sides, as well as Business Representatives from both China and Bangladesh and was comprised multitude of sessions. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina captured the spotlight in Chinese media following her bilateral meetings.
Chinese media highlighted Prime Minister Hasina’s eagerness to foster economic cooperation, citing her repeated invitations for Chinese investments in Bangladesh. In an article, Beijing Daily emphasized Bangladesh’s strong economic prospects, noting that earlier this year, a collaboration between a Bangladeshi university and Chinese companies sought new investment opportunities.
It highlighted that Bangladesh’s economic performance is second only to India in South Asia, considering geopolitical factors. It also acknowledged the fact that numerous large companies from South Asia have moved their operations from India to Bangladesh.
Additionally, the China tour is assumed to have heightened the relations between Bangladesh and China to a “comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership” from “strategic partnership”. Throughout the visit, Bangladesh and China signed over a dozen documents and also saw the announcement of several projects following a high-level bilateral meeting at the Great Hall of the People on 10 July.
Altogether, the visit was widely seen as a success, especially among Chinese individuals, exemplifying mutual respect and cooperation between China and Bangladesh, as reported by China’s reputable news outlets and media.
