Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has handed over 18,566 houses to homeless and landless families across the country under the government’s housing program Asrayan-2. She reiterated that no one will remain homeless and everyone will have a better life.
On Tuesday morning (June 11), joining a video conference from her official residence Ganabhaban, the Prime Minister inaugurated the handover of houses along with land ownership documents to beneficiaries in Kaliganj of Lalmonirhat, Eidgaon of Cox’s Bazar, and Charfassion of Bhola.
The Prime Minister said through the video conference, “The government is working with the goal that no one will remain homeless and everyone will have a better life.”
In the fifth phase, second stage of the Asrayan-2 project, she handed over houses to 18,566 homeless and landless families and declared 70 more upazilas free from landlessness and homelessness along with all upazilas in 26 districts.
She handed over 1,282 houses in Lalmonirhat, 261 in Cox’s Bazar, and 1,234 in Bhola. With these new districts and upazilas, the total number of landless and homeless-free districts in the country is now 58, and upazilas 464.
In Eidgaon upazila of Cox’s Bazar, 281 more people received houses in the second phase of the fifth stage of the Asrayan project. The Prime Minister handed over keys and documents virtually from Ganabhaban. The virtual handover ceremony was also joined by 188 upazilas from various districts, along with three upazilas from Bhola, Lalmonirhat, and Cox’s Bazar.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, urged care for the houses provided by the government. Nearly 600,000 families have received homes through the Asrayan project so far.
The Prime Minister also remembered the day she was released from prison during the emergency period, expressing gratitude to all involved in her speech at the event.
