Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has privately confided to those in his inner circle that he is increasingly disillusioned with President Donald Trump’s approach to the Middle East. This information was published in a report by the Israeli news outlet “Israel Hayom.”
The report states that while Trump often makes strong statements during meetings about taking firm action against Syria and Iran, Netanyahu believes the administration’s subsequent actions are inconsistent with their rhetoric.
One of Netanyahu’s primary concerns is Trump’s support for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s moves to assert control in Syria. Although Trump has granted Israel operational freedom in the region, Netanyahu remains uneasy about the broader implications of Erdogan’s growing influence.
This tension became evident during an impromptu meeting in Washington in April, when Trump publicly complimented Erdogan while Netanyahu sat beside him in silence, offering no response. Erdogan, a staunch critic of Israel, has even led prayers calling for Israel’s destruction during a Ramadan visit to a mosque.
Another point of discomfort for Netanyahu is Trump’s decision to re-engage Iran in nuclear negotiations, which was unveiled during the same White House meeting. Israeli officials fear that the United States is offering concessions without demanding significant commitments in return.
“Israel Hayom” further reports that Netanyahu is disappointed over the dismissal of Mike Waltz, who recently served as the U.S. National Security Advisor. According to “The Washington Post,” Trump was reportedly displeased with Waltz’s aggressive stance on Iran and his ongoing coordination with Netanyahu regarding military strategies targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. These tensions are said to have been a factor in Waltz’s removal last week.
Recently, the differences between Netanyahu and Trump have intensified due to the Israeli military’s attacks in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in the deaths of numerous Palestinian civilians. These attacks have drawn strong condemnation from the international community. Among the deceased are women and children, raising concerns among international human rights organizations.
In this context, Trump has expressed support for increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza. He believes that protecting civilians and addressing the humanitarian crisis is crucial. However, Netanyahu holds a different position. He favors maintaining strict control over humanitarian aid to Gaza. The Israeli Prime Minister believes that this aid could reach terrorist groups like Hamas, posing a threat to Israel’s security.
This disagreement between Netanyahu and Trump has created new complexities in the Israel-U.S. relationship. International analysts believe that this divergence could further complicate the Middle East peace process.
In response to the report, Netanyahu’s office issued a statement saying, “During their conversation days ago, Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump agreed that the supreme goal is the dismantling of Iran’s ability to achieve a nuclear weapon.” However, there was no comment regarding humanitarian aid to Gaza or the recent attacks
