The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has made it mandatory for individual taxpayers to file their income tax returns online for the fiscal year 2025-26, starting on Monday.
A special order to this effect was issued on Sunday, signed by Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and Chairman of NBR.
According to the order, taxpayers must submit their returns through the official website: www.etaxnbf.gov.bd.
However, four categories of taxpayers are exempt from this mandatory online filing requirement: Senior taxpayers aged 65 years or above, Physically disabled or specially-abled taxpayers, Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, and Legal representatives filing on behalf of deceased taxpayers.
These exempted taxpayers may file their returns either online or offline.
The order also clarified that those who have already submitted their returns offline since July 1 will have their submissions accepted.
In case of technical issues during online filing, taxpayers must notify the relevant Deputy Tax Commissioner in writing by October 31. Upon approval from the Additional or Joint Tax Commissioner, they will be allowed to file their returns in paper form.
