Milton Samadder, the chairman of the Child and Old Age Care , has been detained and his wife has been summoned for questioning by the Detective Branch (DB), as stated by the Additional Commissioner of Police (Detective), Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, during a press briefing at his office in Minto Road, Saturday afternoon.
According to Commissioner Rashid, Milton is currently under remand where he is being interrogated regarding various allegations. His wife has been called in to the DB for questioning tomorrow, Sunday afternoon, about the alleged irregularities and corruption within the organization. Earlier, the head of the DB had mentioned that Milton’s wife would also be interrogated, and she might be arrested if any charges are filed against her.
Commissioner Rashid also disclosed that Milton had become psychologically disturbed after he had beaten his father and left his village for Dhaka. The authorities are seeking to understand his rapid rise, how he became known as a humanitarian, the sources of his funds, how he collected money under the false colours of helping the poor, and why he allegedly brought people to a ‘torture cell’ to beat them.
The DB chief added that the use of social media by Milton for fundraising and identifying his supporters will be thoroughly investigated. Detectives have found several bank accounts linked to Milton, and are tracking who deposited money into these accounts.
Milton was arrested last Wednesday night in a raid in the Mirpur area by the Detective-Mirpur Division. Subsequently, three cases were filed against him at the Mirpur Model Police Station. Later, a Dhaka court on Thursday granted a three-day remand to Milton Samadder.
In recent days, Milton Samadder has faced horrific allegations of deceit and forgery under the guise of being a humanitarian, including embezzlement of funds collected in the name of helping helpless individuals, theft of organs including kidneys, creating fake death certificates, and land grabbing. These serious accusations are now spreading widely across social media. A nursing home named Child and Old Age Care, which he set up purportedly to serve destitute and distressed people, has become central to these allegations of wrongdoing.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and the Director General of the Department of Social Services have been instructed by the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action.
