“Sheikh Hasina is the nucleus of all crimes,” said Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam in the trial against the ousted prime minister over crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising.
These statements came Sunday morning in International Crimes Tribunal-1, where Tajul Islam presented his opening remarks.
Moments earlier, Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman called her “the worst tyrant in world history,” demanding the maximum punishment for Hasina and her associates.
“If there were an association of the world’s dictators, Sheikh Hasina would be its president,” he said, branding her “the most deceitful dictator” and “a fallen despot from whom even tyrants could learn lies,” he said.
Attorney General Asaduzzaman also recounted the fate of dictators worldwide, underscoring the historic significance of the trial.
The tribunal is hearing charges of crimes against humanity against Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun– who has confessed and turned state witness (approver).
The proceedings, involving five charges, are being broadcast live from the tribunal, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumder with Justice Md. Shofiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohammod Mohitul Haque as members.
