The government has appointed new administrators for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). Mohammad Ejaz, chairman of the private organization River and Delta Research Center (RDRC), has been appointed as the administrator of DNCC, while Additional Secretary Md. Shahjahan Mia has been appointed as the administrator of DSCC.
On Thursday, February 13, the Ministry of Local Government issued a notification appointing Md. Shahjahan Mia as the administrator of DSCC. Recently promoted to the rank of Additional Secretary, he will now serve in this new role.
According to the official government notification, the appointed administrator will exercise the powers and responsibilities of the Mayor of DSCC under Section 25A, Sub-section (3) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. He will perform this duty in addition to his existing responsibilities and will be entitled to an official “duty allowance” as per regulations but will not receive any additional financial benefits.
Earlier, on Wednesday, February 12, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives issued a separate notification appointing Mohammad Ejaz as the administrator of DNCC for one year. Before this appointment, Mohammad Ejaz served as the chairman of the River and Delta Research Center (RDRC).
As per the new appointment, Mohammad Ejaz will exercise the powers and responsibilities of the DNCC mayor.
These appointments come as part of the government’s effort to ensure proper administration and continuity in city governance.
