The upcoming national election will be held on time, without any delay, confirmed Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam. He described the next five to six days as “very crucial” in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
“We are still in the same position. There will not be a delay of even a single day. We hope this election will be held in a festive atmosphere and will be a good one,” he said.
He made these remarks on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at the “BSRF Dialogue,” organised by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the Media Centre of the Secretariat. The event was also attended by Chief Information Officer of the Department of Information, Md. Nizamul Kabir.
The session was presided over by BSRF President Masudul Haque and conducted by the organisation’s General Secretary Ubaidullah Badal.
Reaffirming the timeline, Shafiqul Alam said, “Be assured, the election will not be delayed. It will be held exactly as Professor Yunus announced. Not even a day’s delay will be tolerated.”
“Dr. Yunus initially mentioned April for the election. Later in London, we stated that if several reforms progressed, it could be held in February. We are still in that position, and there will not be any delay,” he added.
Highlighting the government’s preparations, he said, “We are hopeful for a festive and fair election. While some level of violence tends to occur in every election, we are making our utmost efforts to reduce it to zero.”
