A nationwide “complete shutdown” is underway in Bangladesh, called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, demanding justice for attacks on students, ensuring a safe campus, and reforming the quota system.
In Dhaka, the capital, protesters have occupied major roads since morning, severely disrupting traffic. Clashes have broken out between law enforcement and demonstrators at multiple locations.
Key Developments:
- Jatrabari to Shanir Akhra: Two pedestrians were shot, and a Channel i vehicle was attacked. Mayor Hanif Flyover is closed, and no buses are operating from Sayedabad to long-distance destinations. All traffic is halted between Jatrabari and Kanchpur.
- Badda: Clashes erupted between students and police near BRAC University. Tear gas and batons were used by law enforcement.
- Rampura: A police box was vandalized, and seven motorcycles were set on fire.
- Abdullahpur, Uttara, Khilkhet: Public transport is severely limited, causing immense inconvenience for commuters.
To maintain order, 229 platoons of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) have been deployed across the country.
