The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate has detained a foreign national at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after recovering 8.66 kilograms of cocaine worth an estimated Tk 130 crore from his possession.
According to a press release signed by Sonia Akter, Deputy Director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Circle at Shahjalal Airport, the passenger was apprehended late Sunday night.
The detained passenger has been identified as Karen Petula Stuffle, a citizen of Guyana, an African country.
The press release stated that the passenger arrived in Dhaka on Qatar Airways flight QR-638 from Doha at around 2:30 am on Monday.
Acting on prior intelligence, customs officials were positioned at the airport. After confirming the passenger’s identity upon arrival, investigators waited until immigration formalities were completed before scanning his luggage. The scan revealed suspicious contents.
Upon inspection, three plastic jars were discovered inside the luggage. These contained 22 oval-shaped packets wrapped in foil, later confirmed to be cocaine.
Authorities reported that the seized cocaine weighed a total of 8 kilograms and 660 grams, with an estimated market value of Tk 130 crore.
