In Gopalganj’s Tungipara Shriramkandi Ghosherghat polling centre, there have been complaints of open vote rigging despite the presence of police, polling officers, and the presiding officer.
The incident occurred around 9:30 AM on Wednesday (May 8) at this centre.
When asked about the incident, the voters could not provide a clear answer. However, Presiding Officer Ashish Kumar Majumdar mentioned, “I am looking into the matter.”
Subsequently, when contacted over the phone, Returning Officer Faizur Rahman said, “I am outside, kindly inform the police,” and then disconnected the call.
General voters also complained they are unable to cast their votes safely.
They mentioned since the polling centre is located near the house of Chairman candidate Babul Hossain, his people are wielding influence and openly rigging votes. The general voters feel helpless and unsafe.
Meanwhile, another Chairman candidate, Masud Gazi said, “Babul Hossain’s people are using their local influence to openly rig votes under the ‘Inkpot and Pen’ symbol.”
These are the allegations surrounding the Upazila Elections 2024.
