The BNP has expressed full support for the students’ one-point demand in the anti-discrimination student movement. The BNP held a press conference expressing solidarity with the students’ movement.

At the press conference, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that the country is going through a period of uncertainty, holding the government fully responsible. He urged the people to unite and overthrow the government through protests.

He made this call at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Sunday (4 August).

He said, “The government has tried to suppress the students’ legitimate demands with cruelty from the beginning, leading the country towards destruction and chaos. The state apparatus is being used to forcibly suppress the student movement, which is unprecedented. Today, there is an abnormal situation in the country. The government has declared war on the people. There is only uncertainty and instability all around. The entire responsibility lies with the failed Awami League government.”

He further added, “The BNP fully supports the one-point declaration of the anti-discrimination student movement and the general public. At this critical juncture in the nation’s history, the BNP calls on all democracy-loving people, and all levels of BNP leaders, activists, supporters, and well-wishers to join the student movement on the streets to accelerate the fall of the genocidal autocratic government and to make the non-cooperation movement successful. The blood of hundreds of martyrs cannot go in vain. Inshallah, the victory of the students and the people is inevitable.”

BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Selima Rahman, and others were present at the press conference.
