India has pledged to take steps to prevent the recurrence of killings of unarmed Bangladeshi nationals by members of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian citizens, following Bangladesh’s concerns over such incidents.
The commitment came in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the Director General-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF.
During the talks, the BGB also expressed concern over incidents of Bangladeshi, Indian, and displaced Myanmar nationals being forcibly pushed into Bangladesh.
The BSF assured that illegal Bangladeshis residing in India would be repatriated through agreed processes in line with mutual understanding.
The four-day 56th border conference was held in Dhaka, led by BGB Director General Major General Md. Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui and BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary.
