The army has been instructed to break the legs of those involved in extortion or illegal occupation, according to Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, the interim government’s Home Affairs Adviser.

“I have told the Army Chief that if anyone engages in such activities, break their legs. It won’t be good if I hear such things,” he stated while addressing journalists’ questions at the Secretariat today, Sunday.

The Home Affairs Adviser emphasized that he is not a politician who changes his stance throughout the day and stated that he has yet to visit the ministry. “The Home Ministry is a large entity, and it’s entirely on my shoulders. I need to sit down, meet everyone, and understand the issues. Our country has many problems,” he added.

Sakhawat Hossain also urged all political parties to operate according to the Political Act, stressing that as long as he is in office, he will ensure adherence to the law. “If you don’t stay within the bounds of the Political Act, you won’t be able to continue. You cannot resort to dictatorial practices,” he warned.

Referring to recent reports of extortion and attempts to take over a bank by force, he mentioned receiving reports of such activities at Kawran Bazar and instructed the Army Chief to take strict action. “I don’t care if you go to hell. It won’t be good if these reports reach me. I am not a public figure or politician; my background is military, and I will do what I say,” he asserted.

He also directed police officers to report for duty by Thursday (August 15), warning that those who fail to do so will be assumed to have resigned. He assured that a judicial investigation would take place, and no innocent person would be wronged.
