Chief of Army Staff General Wakar-Uz-Zaman called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday at the state guesthouse Jamuna and later met President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.

During the meeting with the Chief Adviser, discussions centered on the army’s role in assisting the civil administration under the present circumstances.

Professor Yunus expressed gratitude for the military’s continued contribution to maintaining law and order and stressed the importance of streamlining this role through a clearly defined command structure and closer coordination among all forces in the coming months leading up to the elections.

“I have made a solemn commitment to the nation to deliver an election that would stand out in terms of voter turnout, participation of new and women voters, global confidence in safety and security, and its atmosphere as a celebration of democracy and rule of law,” the Chief Adviser said.

General Wakar-Uz-Zaman assured the Chief Adviser of the Bangladesh Army’s full cooperation with the interim government and urged him not to be distracted by rumours.

“The entire army is committed to making the government successful in all its initiatives and programmes,” he added.

Later, in his meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin, the Army Chief shared insights from his recent visit to China, including discussions held during various bilateral meetings.

The talks also covered the overall law and order situation in Bangladesh and ways to further strengthen the army’s contribution to ensuring public security.

The Army Chief also briefed both the President and the Chief Adviser on the ongoing internal development initiatives within the armed forces and outlined future plans.

He reaffirmed the army’s steadfast commitment to supporting efforts to maintain stability, security, and the welfare of the people.
